Ok so the Sea Bathing hospital dates back to 1791, and was used for various 'treatments' for tuberculosis (tb). At first, people who were being treated there were taken to the sea at westbrook bay, after the invention of 'the machine' (horse drawn cart with a canvas covering the patients nakedness from people around, they moved on further to having full indoor swimming pools filled with salt water, so that treatment could continue through the winter. Treatment and development continued, with succession. The Hotel remained as 'up to date' as it possibally could, but due to medical advancments, and the 'long stay' treatments becoming less popular, the Sea Bathing hospital was closed, in a matter of years, the QEQM (Margate) dramatically over took it with more up-to-date treatments and short stay plans. It is rumoured that there a large network of tunnels that were dug for transporting and 'storing' patients during there period of being very contagious, it would not have made sense to be having nearly fully recovered patients come into contact with freshly ill ones and becoming sick again, ive heard that patients were sometimes kept down in the tunnels for up to four years at a time!! I have also been told that during the digging of the foundations of the multi storey carpark that has been started on the site, a small hole has been exposed, i was here for about four and a half hours today before being busted, and didnt find it, although a more thorough search is called for, there are a LOT of holes in the floor surrounding the whole complex! Anyways, now il explain the explore =] We went and done North Entrance with desertion, Fortknox0, knox's mate, and we met up with nik24 for a while afterwards, this killed a few hours of time, but we still had about 5 hours to wait as it was about 11.30 pm!Me and Muffie sat at mine drinking coffee for ages, and left my house at about 4.15 this morning. We arrived at about 5, i will admit, this is a bit late in the morning to get there, as the security can blatantly see you, and so can the residents of sea bathing (This is including security, who actually have private apartments on site), the ideal thing to do is to get there when its dark, get inside the building (without torches!) and sit tight until its properly light! (We didnt do this, although it was the intended plan)
The door i originally thought was the way into the structure wasnt actually the way in, and all hope seemed lost when every single door and window was locked or very securely boarded from inside, after about 30mins of walking around, we found a 15 foot metal ladder, picked it up, and tried to stealthily walk across the entire site
We came to the conclusion that the derelict looking part that we were trying the get into, wasnt actually derelict anymore, and there are actually 120 residents living there!! there are still apartments up for rent/sale http://www.royalseabathing.com.
After climbing all over the structure, to no avail, and not being able to do the crane as it was to light, we FINALLY found a window, it isnt obvious, it is one tiny pane of glass, that is completely removed, you put your hand in the pane and undo both locks, climb in and lock the window and shut the curtains behind you, security will notice if you leave any obvious trail and it will be there pets that follow you in. finally.....on with the pics (all images copyright to frosty, not to be used without permission :cool2: )
There are a few various ones from around the site and inside the site.
And now the interior its suprisingly not pikeyed at all, there isnt one peice of graffiti in the entire building, also, the original lift is in tact!! got into a few of the not yet finished apartments to
**The only room that looks like it is for a young child, note the bright colours =]**
Saw a nice bit of cleavage today!
Muffie plays darts in one of the three TV rooms
And a quick view from the highest point on site
