Scott’s caves were cut into the chalk cliffs at western heights and run parallel to Snargate Street. They consist of two main tunnels connected by smaller spur tunnels and have a shaft at one end. The two main tunnels were used in WW2. One was used as an A.R.P shelter and the other as an admiralty workshop.

Upon last inspection they were being used as engineering workshops by Scott’s dryers and cleaners. The shaft has a diameter of 8ft and runs parallel to the top of western heights and also down quite a way. This once was used as a well but during the war it was adapted and used as an escape shaft.
